Liverpool-based developer YPG has secured planning permission for a 449-unit residential scheme designed to pay homage to the Beatles and history of the city.
Construction on the scheme’s three blocks, called Fab One, Fab Two and Fab Three, is expected to start in July and take two years to complete.
The development forms part of the emerging Fabric District in Liverpool’s Islington area, which is being designed as a new neighbourhood for young skilled workers and students attracted by the city’s higher education, research and health institutions.
The £50m development will comprise the three blocks of between seven and 10 storeys, and will supply a total of 449 one- and two-bed flats and 12,000 sq ft of ground floor commercial space. There will also be secure cycle storage and a gym.
One of the buildings will include 25 enhanced accessibility apartments. All three will feature rooftop gardens.
Ming Yeung, managing director of Liverpool-based YPG, said: “We wanted to give the buildings a distinctive name and pay tribute to both the history of the area as the centre of Liverpool’s clothing and fabric trade and, of course, to the four young lads who changed popular culture for ever.”
Ming added: “Islington has been an unremarkable part of the city for decades now but, as part of the expanded Knowledge Quarter, is undergoing a fabulous renaissance.
“This will be a high quality development providing affordable accommodation for professionals and key workers. We have been able to include some apartments designed for people with mobility challenges as the city centre currently has a very poor supply of such accommodation.”
Yeung added: “Our development is one of a number that will replace existing poor quality industrial and storage buildings with high-quality residential, leisure and retail space.”
