Yeovil Town FC scraps store plan

Yeovil Town Football Club has ditched plans for a supermarket on land near its Huish Park ground that would have funded a new stand.

The Somerset club, which will compete in the League One division in 2014–15, has withdrawn plans for a circa 70,000 sq ft shop after nearly three years of negotiations with South Somerset district council broke down.

The Glovers wanted the store to raise funds to transform the Copse Road End into an all-seater stand.

Club chairman John Fry said: “Of course I am very disappointed that after such protracted discussions with the council we have come to this decision.”

He added that the club would pursue an alternative scheme.
