Louise Wyman, most recently strategic director for growth and development at Manchester City Council, is moving to the private sector.
She is joining CBRE as executive director, strategic development. She takes up the role later this month and will be based in the firm’s Birmingham office but with a UK-wide remit.
At Manchester council, Wyman was responsible for commercial property, housing, planning and regeneration teams, as well as teams focused on inward investment, skills building and delivering inclusive growth.
Prior to that appointment, which she took up in June 2020 and left less than a year later in April 2021, she was director of strategy and engagement at Homes England, and part of the team that established the government’s housing agency in 2018. While at Homes England, Wyman was seconded to West Midlands Combined Authority to lead on design and development initiatives. This included launching the West Midlands Design Charter with mayor Andy Street, aimed at raising the quality and sustainability of the built environment across the West Midlands region.
“There’s a fantastic opportunity for CBRE to use the power of its UK platform to identify credible urban renewal projects that will, over time, often require complex land assembly, infrastructure investment to unlock growth, public/private sector delivery vehicles and the production of comprehensive masterplans,” said Wyman. “This is an area where I have considerable experience and I’m delighted to be joining CBRE’s expert team to help spearhead the firm’s continued growth in this area.”
Adam Hetherington, executive director at CBRE, added: “Our public and private sector clients are increasingly seeking strategic advice around urban regeneration projects to drive economic recovery and ‘levelling up’ as our UK cities and towns focus on repositioning post Covid-19. Louise’s wealth of experience and fantastic track record will elevate our existing strengths in this area and enable us to make a more significant impact on major urban renewal projects across the UK.”
Wyman, who is a chartered surveyor and landscape architect, is the latest in a growing list of public sector leaders moving across to the private sector. In July, EG revealed that former chief executive of Homes England Nick Walkley was joining Avison Young as principal and president of UK strategic advisory. He joins the business this month.
