Wrenbridge bids to end seven years of hurt

The draw was made today for the seventh annual Wrenbridge World Cup, with the hosts hoping this will be the year they finally lift the trophy.

Wrenbridge has never won its annual five-a-side football tournament, typically having been eliminated at the quarter final stage, much like England.

But as the draw was made today for next Friday’s tournament, which is sponsored by Estates Gazette, Wrenbridge chief executive Ben Coles said he hoped this would be his team’s year.

“We always go out in the quarter finals, a bit like England,” he said. “But we are always really competitive and we will be again this year.”

More than 200 people will take part in the tournament, with a total of 27 teams having entered this year made up of agents, investors, contractors and architects that work with Wrenbridge.

Last year’s tournament was won by ISG, but Coles singled out investor Lumina Real Estate Capital as a one to watch this year with their BarceLumina team rumoured to include former Southampton and Chelsea players.

This year’s tournament is raising money towards former LaSalle Investment Management worker Amanda Scott’s fundraising efforts for Macmillan Cancer Support – visit www.justgiving.com/amandascottfunride
