Work on City’s tallest tower pauses for EU referendum

22-Bishopsgate-Monument-View-low-res-credit-Hayes-Davidson-206x300Building work on what will be the City of London’s tallest tower has paused because of uncertainty around tomorrow’s UK referendum on remaining in or leaving the EU.

AXA Investment Management – Real Assets and Lipton Rogers plan a 62-storey skyscraper at 22 Bishopsgate, EC2.

Chief executive Pierre Vaquier told Bloomberg: “We have not launched the project because we want to see the results of the Brexit.”

He said AXA might “revisit the options” if the UK voted to leave.

The company said it was finalising the main contractor and work was intended to begin in the second half of the year, with a final construction timetable confirmed after the EU referendum.

The previous owners stopped construction on their Pinnacle tower in 2012.
