US property tycoon Donald Trump has warned he will “put his future plans in Aberdeen on hold”, after a wind farm off the coast of Aberdeen won consent from the Scottish government.
The £230m wind farm comprises 11 offshore wind turbines located close to Trump’s £750m golfing and leisure resort at Menie, north of Aberdeen.
He claims the turbines would spoil sea views for golfers using his course.
Trump said: “We will be bringing a lawsuit within the allocated period of time to stop what will definitely be the destruction of Aberdeen and Scotland itself.”
Trump’s plans include a 140-bedroom hotel, a golf academy, holiday homes and luxury golf villas alongside two coastal championship courses. He added: “We will spend whatever monies are necessary to see to it that these huge and unsightly industrial wind turbines are never constructed.”
The European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre project aims to provide enough energy for 49,000 homes.
