Plans to expand Wimbledon’s courts have fallen foul of a society that wants to protect the park.
The Capability Brown Society, named after Wimbledon Park’s designer, has labelled the All England Lawn Tennis Club plans as “disastrous”, stating that the development will “make the area look like Thorpe Park”.
The All England club wants to develop Wimbledon Park golf club, opposite its grounds, after the golf members accepted a £65m bid for the 73-acre site in 2018.
