A joint venture between Galliard and Catalyst has received a £150m loan to build 604 homes on the site of the former Wimbledon Greyhound Stadium, SW17.
The Merton Catalyst jv has been given the loan by Homes England and Barclays under the government’s £1bn Housing Delivery Fund. The money will be used to accelerate the construction of its residential led scheme on Plough Lane.
Homes England and Barclays have also agreed to lend £5.3m to Cannon Capital Developments to turn a former commercial building in Southampton into 56 flats for private sale.
The two loans are the first to be awarded under the Housing Delivery Fund, which was announced last year by former housing minister James Brokenshire and former Barclays chairman John McFarlane.
Housing minister Kit Malthouse said: “Upping our game to build more, better and faster is how we are going to meet our ambition of delivering 300,000 homes a year by the middle of the next decade.
“Innovations are key to unlocking the next generation of homes and our Housing Delivery Fund – a £1bn partnership between government and Barclays – is a great example of the new approaches we are taking to get more homes out the starting blocks.”
