Willmott Dixon: diverse teams breed success

Following the success of EG’s Future Female Leaders project in 2019, we have pledged to continue our programme of training the industry’s future leaders with at least two further cohorts in 2020.

Back in partnership with Ginger Public Speaking, a range of women from across the built environment will again be undergoing Ginger’s intense training schedule, learning the skills and building the confidence to be not just a future leader, but a leader today.

Culminating, just like in 2019, with a high-octane and overwhelmingly inspiring event in the summer, this year’s Future Female Leaders project kicks off officially on 20 February. But before we meet this year’s cohorts, let’s hear from some of our key partners on FFL: the second coming.

It is helping to create the awareness that is going to make our industry fit for purpose in the long term

Why Willmott Dixon is supporting Future Female Leaders

Diverse teams breed success. They promote higher levels of performance and make the office or site a more enjoyable and productive place for teams to thrive. That’s why I wanted Willmott Dixon Interiors to stand up and be part of EG’s Future Female Leaders programme.

This is not a quick solution. We all need to look at our culture and ways of working to create an environment that encourages people from all parts of society.

We’re on that journey now. We became the first construction company to publicly commit to achieving gender parity at each job grade by 2030. This means taking bold decisions to deliver a workplace that supports diversity, such as agile working in offices and sites, without compromising on our ethos of always recruiting the best people for the role.

This area is critical to our future, and it is one that our FFL participant, Sarah Bissessar, will be picking up for her talk in June.

We’ve made good progress in improving recruitment at apprentice and graduate level; now we need to focus on middle to senior levels, where there remains a gap. I know that Sarah is as passionate as me about unlocking the huge potential of a more diverse workforce, and I’m looking forward to the ideas that she will develop about balancing work and home life.
