EG FUTURE LEADERS 2024 Manuela Apostol, Anaplan and BI solutions architect, Logicor
Food may well be the language of love, but for Logicor Anaplan and BI solutions architect Manuela Apostol there is a much more important language we should all be learning if we want to turn a couple of beers into a feast.
Apostol is pretty good at languages. Born and raised in Romania, she speaks and works in English, studied in the Netherlands and will be getting married in Spain to her Spanish fiancé. But the language Apostol thinks it is most vital we all learn to speak is data. If we don’t have a fluent understanding of data and how to translate it, she believes the industry will never quite realise its full potential.
She compared data literacy to her own journey in languages. While a few hours on Duolingo may get you to a point where you can order “dos cervezas”, all that will get you is two beers; if you study harder and learn more, you might get some beers and tapas, maybe even a Spanish feast.
With a better understanding of data, real estate will be able to spot outliers and predict future trends.
“What I want for our industry is to be able to marry business and tech,” she said, “so people with great ideas are able to connect with technology professionals, speak their languages and use the technologies that are supporting their vision.”
She added: “We must start implementing data literacy in our education. Make it part of our professional development… and I can promise you that learning a new language is amazing. It has given me gifts I would have never expected, and I know that if we here are all learning to speak this language, when it comes to your vision to implement new or existing technology, or even adopt artificial intelligence, you will be able to do it faster. And you will stop getting dos cervezas and you’ll get that feast.”
