Whitbread to open Premier Inn at Staffs business park

Whitbread has announced plans to open a Premier Inn and adjacent restaurant at Towers Business Park, Rugeley, Staffordshire.

The UK’s largest hotel and restaurant group is investing £4.5m in the development of a 50-bedroom hotel to be built next to a new Table Table restaurant on the site.

Work is set to start on site imminently and completion is due in early 2011.

Advantage West Midlands (AWM) and Cannock Chase District Council had remediated the site for redevelopment, prior to securing the deal with Premier Inn.

The new Premier Inn at Rugeley forms part of the firm’s ambition to increase its number of rooms from 42,500 to 55,000 rooms across the UK by 2014.

Steve Holland, head of asset management at AWM, said: “This is one of the last pieces of the jigsaw slotting into place.  We have worked with partners to invest more than £10m on making this former colliery site ready for high quality office, industrial and warehouse space.”

The new Rugeley hotel will bolster Premier Inn’s presence in the region, adding to existing hotels in Stafford (three locations), Cannock (two sites), Uttoxeter, Burton-on-Trent and Lichfield.  Premier Inn’s first ‘green hotel’ is also close by at Tamworth.

Towers Business Park is a 100 acre former colliery site on the outskirts of Rugeley being developed by Advantage West Midlands, Cannock Chase Council and Gazeley to create a mixed-use facility comprising offices, industrial and warehouse space.
