WFH is an ‘aberration’, says Goldman Sachs boss

The boss of Goldman Sachs has called home working an “aberration” and told staff to get back to their desks “as soon as possible”.

David Solomon said that, despite less than 10% of its 34,000 staff working in the bank’s offices, WFH did not represent a “new normal”.

“That’s a temporary thing,” he said. “I do think that for a business like ours, which is an innovative, collaborative apprenticeship culture, this is not ideal for us. And it’s not a new normal. It’s an aberration that we’re going to correct as soon as possible.”

The stance shows a marked difference of approach to that taken by HSBC, which plans to entrench WFH and cut its office space by 40%.
