Pub operator JD Wetherspoon has 10 pubs on the market or under offer, having sold or given back to the landlord 26 sites in its current financial year.
In a trading update ahead of results due on 4 October, the company said it has shuttered “smaller and older” pubs, as well as those that had a second pub “in reasonably close proximity”. There was a net cash inflow of £8.7m from the disposals.
Chairman Tim Martin said: “We are also continuing to open new pubs, with openings in the next few months, for example, in Waterloo and Fulham Broadway stations in London, and in Marlow in Buckinghamshire.
“The company continues to expect profits in the current financial year to be in line with market expectations.”
