Westminster buyers are winners in the council tax league

The City of Westminster has the lowest council tax rate in the country, with owners of the most valuable homes in the local authority which extends from Kilburn in north London down to the banks of the Thames paying just £1,420 per year.

The equivalent property in Kingston upon Thames, which imposes London’s highest rate, would be liable for more than £3,500.

In Doncaster, South Yorkshire, even working families would have to pay more than a Westminster millionaire: council tax on a home in the village of Fishlake with a value of around £350,000 costs about £200 per year more than a Westminster mansion.
