Westfield Century City to undergo $800m renovation

Westfield Century City is undergoing a major $800m (£551.8m) renovation to create an experience-led shopping destination in Los Angeles.

Eileen Hanson, Westfield’s senior vice-president of marketing, said the transformation is designed to encourage footfall to its retail, dining and events offers.

Westfield-Century-City-LA“We saw the huge opportunity here to expand the footprint, create a second level in the new area of the centre, as well as have some key, amazing anchor partners come in and build a whole new environment that is really quintessentially Los Angeles,” she said.

New flagship tenants will include department stores Nordstrom, Macy’s and chef Mario Batali’s Eataly restaurant brand, in addition to a revamped Bloomingdales store.

The open-air shopping mall is one of a number of shopping centres in and around Los Angeles, California, to invest in updating its offer and it is expected to complete in 2017.

Others include the Beverly Center ($500m) and Irvine Spectrum ($150m).
