Wales scraps road plans over climate concerns

The Welsh government will scrap the majority of its road construction programmes following a review of their impact on the climate.

Only 17 of the 59 projects reviewed by an expert roads review panel will go ahead, and only 15 in their original form, with others scaled back, postponed or in some cases shelved.

Wales had no chance of meeting its targets for achieving net zero carbon emissions if the planned projects went ahead, said Lee Waters, deputy climate change minister.
