US fried chicken chain Popeyes has set a goal of opening 350 new restaurants in the UK over the next 10 years, with its first one to launch by the end of this year.
The company runs 3,400 restaurants across 29 countries. The UK will be its eleventh country in the EMEA region, which has more than 350 Popeyes restaurants.
The chain, which was founded in New Orleans in 1972, expanded to Switzerland last year and Spain in 2019.
David Shear, president international at Restaurant Brands International, said the UK launch would offer “an alternative product in a major international market that we believe is ripe for disruption”.
Popeyes will enter the UK market as part of an agreement between PLK Europe, a subsidiary of Restaurant Brands International, family-owned conglomerate Ring International Holdings and hospitality industry veteran Elias Diaz Sese.
Diaz Sese is a former executive of Restaurant Brands International and also a Dominos Pizza UK non-executive director.
