Developer Urban Splash has won detailed planning consent for the first phase of its redevelopment of the Park Hill estate in
The company is planning to turn the North Block of the unloved 1960s residential scheme into 321 flats with 40,000 sq ft of ground floor retail and leisure space.
There are likely to be five shop units and five bar/restaurant units within the scheme, although final details have not yet been confirmed.
Landscaping is also planned for land surrounding the site, while improved transport links to the city centre are also proposed.
Park Hill, one of the most notorious buildings to arise from the 1960s “Brutalist” style of architecture, is the largest Grade-II listed structure in
Outline consent for the overall scheme, which comprises 900 residential units was granted in January following the awarding by English Partnerships of a £14.8m grant.
The developer says it will spend the next year preparing the site, with construction expected to begin in 2008.
