University of Reading sells Shinfield West site

Bovis-Homes-THUMB.jpegThe University of Reading has sold a development site to a consortium of housebuilders including Bovis Homes, Linden Homes and Bloor Homes.

The 100-acre Shinfield West site will see 1,350 new homes built four miles south of Reading, Berkshire, to the west of Shinfield Village.

Outline planning consent for the Shinfield West site was secured by the university in 2012 and includes 150 specialist homes, a new primary school, public open space and a new village centre.

Sale proceeds will be invested into the university’s long-term capital investment programme.

Sir David Bell, vice-chancellor of the University of Reading, said: “It will underpin our ongoing capital investment programme – meaning we have stable funding for frontline facilities for teaching, learning and research, as well as for the Thames Valley Science Park.”

The University of Reading was advised by Savills.
