UK delegation seeks to reassure Middle East investors

A delegation of UK real estate leaders will travel to Abu Dhabi and Dubai this month to reassure investors that the UK is a valuable place to invest in spite of Brexit.

Sir Edward Lister, special adviser to the UK Department for International Trade, will be joined by representatives of Legal & General Investment Management, HS2 and the Northern Gateway Development Zone in Abu Dhabi on 25 April and Dubai on 26 April.

They will meet a host of major investors, as well as local and international real estate players, who will come together for events and meetings in the region hosted by EG in partnership with the UK DIT and Cluttons.

The investment mission will capitalise on positive sentiment in the Middle East towards the UK, reflected in a £5bn pledge from the state of Qatar last week to invest in transport, property and digital technology in the UK.

Qatar already has property interests in the UK to the tune of £40bn, including Harrods, The Shard, Canary Wharf and Olympic Village.

The Dubai event, entitled Redefining the Global City, has Chris Kelsey, the 19-year-old chief executive of Cazza Construction Technologies, which is building the world’s first 3D-printed skyscraper, on the speaker’s bill. Also featuring will be Simon Clegg, chief operating officer of Expo 2020, which is among the world’s biggest ever regeneration projects, covering 438 hectares in the Dubai south district and spurring billions of pounds worth of construction projects.

Sanjay Manchanda, chief executive of one of Dubai’s biggest developers, Nakheel, will also be speaking.

There are still spaces for senior real estate and regional representatives to join the investment mission, and also to speak at the events. Expressions of interest should be emailed to rebecca.kent@egi.co.uk.
