UK Central initiative high-level plans to go public

MIPIM UK NEWS EXCLUSIVE: A high-level plan outlining the detailed vision for the multi-million pound UK Central initiative is to be unveiled in December.

Estates Gazette spoke exclusively to Huw Lewis, the recently appointed managing director of Solihull’s Urban Growth Company at MIPIM UK today.

Lewis and recently appointed UGC chairman Nick Brown, are working with local stakeholders including the NEC, Arden Cross, Birmingham Airport and Jaguar to formulate the vision for the major regeneration project which has a funding pot of £600m.

Lewis said: “We are planning to go public by the end of the year. This plan will influence what HS2 and others have to do and will trigger the process of delivery and work practices.”

UK Central will see circa 2m sq ft of new employment space and around 2,500 new homes, alongside the proposed HS2 Interchange station.
