U+I plots over 1,000 homes for rent in South East

U+I has submitted plans to deliver more than 1,000 homes for rent across four mixed-use regeneration schemes in the South East.

The developments, which will have a combined gross development value of more than £250m, are proposed for sites in Ashford, Maidstone and Swanley, in Kent, and one site in Woking, Surrey.

Richard Upton, deputy chief executive of U+I, said the homes would create “high quality and affordable accommodation”, to match the lifestyle aspirations of a new generation choosing to rent.

The proposed schemes are all located within an hour’s commute of central London.

The four projects include:

Ashford, Kent

ashford-u+iU+I is bringing forward a six-acre development on a Homes and Communities Agency site opposite Ashford International train station.

The proposed scheme would consist of around 200 homes, a 120-bedroom hotel, an Aldi food store, a new brewery and visitor centre for local wine and beer maker Chapel Down alongside flexible retail and commercial space.

Designed by Kent-based architect Guy Hollaway Architects, construction of the project could start in early 2017 if approved.

Maidstone, Kent

maidstone-u+iThe Maidstone site comprises two phases with planning consent already obtained to develop 192 residential units in the first phase. An application has also been submitted for the second phase of the project to develop 300 residential units, the majority of which would be private rented homes.

Designed by Guy Hollaway Architects, the development will transform a derelict but gateway site into a new residential community with a 17-storey tower at the centre.

Swanley, Kent

swanley-u+iAn application was submitted in July to extend and enhance Swanley Square shopping centre, one of U+I’s assets. Designed by HLM Architects, the extension to the shopping centre would include 340 residential units, 46,780 sq ft of new commercial and retail, restaurants, shops, new office space and a new car park.

Woking, Surrey

woking-u+iPlans have been submitted to redevelop Elizabeth House, a vacant 1980s office building close to Woking train station. Proposals include 241 new homes, 5,700 sq ft of offices, small retail and start-up units, restaurants and cafes alongside communal areas. Designed by RTKL, the redevelopment will provide affordable workspace for Woking’s start-up community as well as ground-floor shops.
