Local developer Fishron has received planning permission for a Travelodge hotel on Victoria Street in Basingstoke, Hampshire.
The existing empty 1980s office block will be demolished to make way for the 88-bedroom hotel in addition to a ground-floor shop or restaurant. Work is expected to begin in spring 2012, with the hotel opening in mid 2013.
John Fisher, joint managing director of Fishron, said: ” The new scheme will help kick-start development in New Road and help regenerate this part of the town, which has been an aspiration of the council for many years.”
Alan Oliver, development manager for Travelodge Hotels, said: “We fully expect this hotel to quickly become one of our top performers in Hampshire and look forward to its opening in mid 2013.”
