Travelodge signs for Sittingbourne

U+I has signed four new retail and leisure businesses to the £57m Kent regeneration project Spirit of Sittingbourne.

Pizza Express, Wildwood, Home Bargains and Travelodge have all agreed to open outlets at the mixed-use development, which is being developed in partnership with Swale Borough Council, Quinn Estates and Essential Land.

Restaurant chain Wildwood has taken a 3,500 sq ft unit facing the train station, Pizza Express has signed for a 3,000 sq ft unit next to the eight-screen Light Cinema and Home Bargains has taken a 15,000 sq ft unit on the site of the former Prices Street Depot.

The shops and 63-bedroom Travelodge will be constructed alongside 213 affordable homes.

Richard Upton, deputy chief executive at U+I, said: “Signing up these businesses demonstrates how much interest and opportunity there is in Sittingbourne, and our commitment to the ongoing revitalisation of the area.

“We expect that news of this will draw more leisure and retail operators to the town centre – helping making Sittingbourne a true destination town.”
