Tottenham regeneration plans revealed

Proposals for a mass redevelopment between the new Tottenham Hotspur stadium and White Hart Lane Station, N17, including 1,650 new homes, have been unveiled.

Haringey council has devised three options for High Road West, which will be centred around a new public Wembley-style approach linking the stadium and station.

The most ambitious option includes plans for 1,650 homes, new open space equivalent to 34 tennis courts and a cinema or bowling alley. It would be a phased redevelopment over 15 years.

All of the proposals are mixed-use and include major improvements to the station, flats, cafés, shops and restaurants.

A number of buildings would need to be redeveloped to make way for the regeneration, including 2-32 Whitehall Street and Peacock industrial estate.

The High Road West area of Tottenham is broadly between Tottenham High Road and the railway line, running from Coombes Croft Library in the south, to the former Cannon Rubber factory in the north.

Councillor Alan Strickland, cabinet member for regeneration, said: “Improving north Tottenham has long been a priority for the council. The £430m Spurs stadium project offers us a once-in-a-generation opportunity to kick-start the improvements that local residents have told us they want to see to the neighbourhood west of Tottenham High Road.”

Under the proposals, council tenants on the Love Lane Estate would benefit from a range of new homes.

The plans come seven months after Estates Gazette revealed Jones Lang LaSalle and design company Arup had been given six months to devise ideas for attracting developers, investors and businesses to the area, which was blighted by riots in 2011, with numerous properties destroyed.

A public consultation on the plans runs until 21 June.
