Torbay Council in Devon has formed a regeneration partnership with mixed-use developer Milligan and construction firm Willmott Dixon to help it drive forward plans for key sites.
The partnership will work to reshape town centres, improve public realm, increase town centre living, repurpose excess retail and vacant shops and improve the connectivity between town centres.
Key projects already awarded government funding in Torquay and Paignton will be the initial focus for the partnership. The priority programmes are designed to bring confidence, create jobs and homes, and improve the council’s overall ability to sustain its services.
The council said it would continue to make the case for more government, public and private sector investment for schemes across the Bay.
David Thomas, leader of Torbay Council, said the partnership with Milligan and Willmott Dixon would create a “step change in our ability to deliver these schemes”.
“There are major schemes already under way which show there is huge confidence in Torbay and a bright future for our towns. But we know there are challenges and a lot of work still to do, so the partnership gives a clear signal to everyone that Torbay has an exciting future.”
The Bay is made up of the three towns of Torquay, Paignton and Brixham.
