TJ Hughes stores still open despite distribution hub closing

The administrator of TJ Hughes insists its 56 stores are continuing to trade, despite shutting its Liverpool-based distribution centre.

Ernst & Young shut the firm’s Wavertree distribution centre on 22 July. The site had employed 132 staff and was the fashion retailer’s main storage and transport facility.

A spokesman for Ernst & Young said: “All 56 stores of the company are continuing to trade whilst a sale of all or part of the business remains ongoing.”

TJ Hughes was hit by the withdrawal of credit insurance for its suppliers in March, and on 28 June it filed an intention to appoint an administrator after a supplier threatened to file a winding-up notice against it. Tom Jack and Simon Allport at Ernst & Young were appointed joint administrators of TJ Hughes on 30 June.
