TikTok to open €420m data centre in Ireland

TikTok has revealed plans to open a €420m (£377m) data centre in Ireland which will store all of European users’ data.

The social media company said the data centre, which is slated to open by early 2022, marks its “long-term commitment to Ireland” and it is in discussions with the Irish government’s investment promotion agency, IDA, about advancing its plans.

The plans follow the opening of the company’s EMEA Trust and Safety hub in Dublin at the start of the year.

TikTok global chief information security officer Roland Cloutier said: “Protecting our community’s privacy and data is and will continue to be our priority.

“Today’s announcement is just the latest part of our ongoing work to enhance our global capability and efforts to protect our users and the TikTok community.”
