The Halo Effect: Google CFO joins Blackstone board and new role for CBRE’s CDO

It has been a week of people moves and new roles in the world of tech this week. Top stories on Halo, EG’s tech and innovation platform, include Google’s CFO joining Blackstone’s board and CBRE’s digital boss taking on a new, people-based role.

First up, Blackstone appointed Ruth Porat, chief financial officer of Google and Alphabet (pictured), to its board of directors. She joined Google in May 2015 as senior vice-president and chief financial officer and took on the role at Alphabet in October 2015. Also this week, CBRE appointed its chief digital & technology officer Chandra Dhandapani to the role of chief administrative officer. Dhandapani has led CBRE’s digital transformation since 2016 and is now tasked with bringing the same changes to the agent’s people, marketing and research functions as well. Ahead of the second in a series of EG podcasts on building data scheduled for tomorrow, we announced that Google Maps’ Ed Parsons would be taking part in the event to talk about the power and important of data ethics. He will be joining Dan Hughes, founder of the Real Estate Data Foundation, and Lendlease masterplan strategist Kat Hanna to discuss how can real estate companies can effectively collect and use building data to avoid sparking privacy concerns. Also this week, new residential property fund London Digital Bond has teamed up with investment company London Chelsea and digital securities trading platform SolidBlock to raise funds through blockchain-based technology,  and Richard Angliss of leasle comments on why resilience and efficiency will be driven by accessible data.
