Telford’s £250m Southwater plans get the nod

A £250m regeneration scheme for the centre of Telford won outline planning consent this week.

Plans for mixed-use redevelopment of the 30-acre Southwater Development site were approved by Telford & Wrekin council, which is a joint venture partner, together with Southwater Event Group, on the project.

No start date has yet been announced for the redevelopment that will include 300,000 sq ft of offices, 330 homes, 2 hotels, plus retail and leisure uses.

The site is adjacent to Telford Shopping Centre and extends from Southwater Square to the International Centre, the conference venue that will be extended as part of the development.

Council leader Andrew Eade said, “It will set in motion one of the most exciting redevelopment projects seen in the borough for many years, revitalising the town centre and contributing significantly to economic development opportunities.”

The Southwater regeneration forms part of a wider £1.2bn redevelopment of Telford town centre by the council, and Apollo Real Estate and Hark Group, which own the 1m sq ft Telford Shopping Centre.
