Flipper Devices has established its global headquarters and “hackspace” at Greenwich Peninsula’s Design District, SE10.
The viral tech business has taken Building B1, designed by architects SelgasCano, at 8 Soames Walk. The facility spans 12,170 sq ft of workspace across four storeys.
Alongside the workspace, Flipper’s HQ will also house a “hackspace”, where enthusiasts can learn, play and collaborate. The launch of the concept is scheduled for later this year.
The district provides space for creative industries across its 150,000 sq ft purpose-built site. Over the past year Design District has secured leasing deals with five other creative tech businesses – Brain Audio, Engage Works, Carter, Twirl and Tomorrow Bureau – totalling more than 10,700 sq ft.
Design District operates a blended rent model, pegging rent to commercial success, meaning that more established organisations, such as Flipper Devices, shoulder a larger rent cost than smaller businesses.
GLA Land & Property, the developer behind the district, is working to a blended rent target of £25 per sq ft – half the London average of £49.64 per sq ft and around a third of the Shoreditch average of between £65 and £75 per sq ft.
Alex Kulagin, co-founder and chief operations officer of Flipper, said: “We will soon have a physical hub in which to bring together the colleagues and community that we have built online and around the world.”
Design District director Laura Flanagan added: “Design District is right at the frontier of nurturing and championing the evolution of the creative and digital industries, which are essential to London’s economy and future prosperity.”
Design District was founded in 2021 as a joint venture between Knight Dragon and the mayor of London.
