Taylor Wimpey has been named preferred bidder for one of the most high-profile estate regeneration projects in the country.
It was chosen by Wandsworth Council as a joint venture partner for the £1bn redevelopment of the Winstanley and York Road Estates in Battersea, SW18, after a 13-month OJEU tendering process.
Taylor Wimpey fended off competition from Lend Lease, which has been appointed as reserve bidder, Balfour Beatty and First Base to take the 2,000-home redevelopment opportunity.
Wandsworth Council launched the regeneration project in January 2016, looking for a partner to redevelop the 32-acre estates next to Clapham Junction station.
Plans at the time included the replacement of around 700 of the 1,300 homes being refurbished, and a further 1,300 being built across a mixture of tenures.
Taylor Wimpey’s scheme, according to council documents, will include the re-provision of 530 social rented homes, 100 new for affordable rent, 100 new shared ownership and 300 private rented homes.
Around 970 new homes will be built for private sale to reach the 2,000 new home total, alongside retail, commercial and leisure redevelopment.
The original shortlist included: Balfour Beatty Infrastructure Investments & First Base, Berkeley Group, C&C Properties UK & Pinnacle Group, Lend Lease Europe Holdings, and Taylor Wimpey UK.
GVA advised the council.
