Take off for Reland’s RAF scheme

Reland has won planning consent to redevelop the RAF Little Rissington air force base, Gloucestershire, following a public inquiry.

The new development will bring 368 new homes and 98,000 sq ft of office and retail space to the 170-acre site, which has been used as a business park since the former MOD site was decommissioned in the 1990s.

A number of the buildings of architectural merit and will be retained as part of the development, including the former Officers’ Mess.

Robin Shepherd, a director in Barton Willmore’s Cardiff office, which advised Reland, part of the Gladedale Group, said: “We have always believed that these proposals are the right thing to do to resolve the significant problems and legacy at Upper Rissington from its former military use.

“We have worked extensively with the local community to prepare proposals that will address these problems and provide a more sustainable and self-contained community.

“Even though Cotswold district council and Gloucestershire county council sought to resist these proposals, we are delighted that the inspector – on behalf of the secretary of state – has recognised the benefits they can bring.

“Due to its location in an area of outstanding natural beauty, the number of protected trees and other constraints affecting the site, we have provided significant and detailed measures to ensure the character of the area will be improved.

“We are now keen to progress with the development of the site to deliver the fantastic benefits these proposals will bring.”
