LaSalle Investment Management and Quadrant Repurpose’s plan to redevelop Hersham Green Shopping Centre in Walton-on-Thames into 109 homes has been refused.
Elmbridge Borough Council refused the planning application, in line with officer recommendations having received 3,000 letters of objection from the community.
The shopping centre comprises a Waitrose supermarket, 15 stores and 223 car-parking spaces. The occupational leases expire next year.
It also includes a separate car park, Hersham Green Shopping Centre Car Park, with 180 parking spaces.
Waitrose was one of the objectors to the duo’s application, citing the loss of parking space.
LaSalle IM and Quadrant acquired the site with plans to redevelop it in 2021 for just over £17m from clients of Aviva Investors.
