The founder of the Story of Christmas carol concert, Robert Spooner, died yesterday in St Mary’s Hospital London after a long illness.
He ran the annual black-tie event at St George’s Church, Hanover Square, from its inception in 1978 until last year.
Over £4m has been raised for homeless charities by property industry sponsors over the 32 years. The patron of the EG-supported event is Dame Judi Dench. Last December Joanna Lumley and Aled Jones took part in the service.
The Story of Christmas is now organised by the Orpheus Foundation, a music charity run by Marc Corbett-Weaver. The 2010 concert will take place on December 15th at St George’s Church.
