Emma Watson, Charles Dance and Martin Jarvis were among the celebrities who took part in the Story of Christmas Appeal 2013 at St George’s Church in Hanover Square last night.
They were joined by the likes of Freddie Fox, Penelope Wilton, Tamsin Grieg and Ian Hislop, all of whom gave readings in between singing by the Choir of St George’s Chapel Windsor and music from the brass band of the Welsh guards.
Some 600 of the property and construction industry’s biggest names attended the service and the reception at the Dorchester Hotel afterwards – many of whom had made generous donations to projects to support homeless and disadvantaged people in London.
This year £380,000 was raised for the Story of Christmas appeal through a charity auction where Allsop auctioneer Gary Murphy prompted bidding for lots including a week at a luxury mansion in south west France and dinner at Michel Roux’s Le Gavroche.
