SPX to settle in Didsbury business park

US technology company SPX has completed its letting of 24,000 sq ft at Wereldhave’s 300,000 sq ft Towers Business Park in Didsbury, south Manchester.

The North Carolina-based company, which manufactures flow technology and measurement equipment, will open a European shared services centre in the Ocean House building at the end of March.

SPX chose to locate in Manchester after considering options in Birmingham and continental Europe.

The firm also considered options at Salford Quays before settling on south Manchester.

The deal involved existing leaseholder Mapeley surrendering its lease to free up the space which will be refurbished before SPX takes occupancy.

The SPX letting comes two months after retailer John Lewis Partnership struck a deal with Dutch developer Wereldhave for a 20,000 sq ft at the Scotscroft building at Towers Business Park, with an option to take a further 20,000 sq ft.

Mary Sczudlo, vice president of global business systems at SPX, commented: “Manchester offers many opportunities and advantages for our shared service centre.

“There is a strong and diverse skills base in the Greater Manchester area as well as good international connections and a well-developed SSC community.”

CBRE advised SPX. GVA Grimley and OBI acted for Wereldhave.
