Tottenham Hotspur Football Club has got the go-ahead for an 80,000 sq ft university technical college, as part of its plans for a mass N17 regeneration.
The Premier League club has reached an agreement with the Department for Education and the Education Authority to develop the KK-designed building above the new 72,000 sq ft Sainsbury’s on the north side of its stadium.
The supermarket is due to open in September 2014, and the university technical college would open shortly after.
It will complement the £430m redevelopment of the White Hart Lane stadium, and proposals by Haringey council for up to 1,650 new homes across 25 surrounding acres.
Donna-Maria Cullen, executive director at Spurs, and trustee of the Tottenham university technical college, said: “Tottenham is an area in desperate need of regeneration and, as one of its main employers, we recognise the importance of inspiring education amongst our community.
“We are delighted that the Tottenham university will be part of this regeneration.”
The university is being sponsored by the club and Middlesex University.
