Southwark approves 28-storey resi scheme

A virtual planning committee for Southwark Council has approved a residential-led scheme of up to 28 storeys at Ilderton Road, SE16.

The application from CB Southern was due to be debated in March but was delayed as the coronavirus pandemic forced the country into lockdown.

The scheme at 79-161 Ilderton Road comprises two buildings of 13 and 28 storeys, with 312 flats and commercial floorspace close to Old Kent Road.

This includes 35% affordable housing and 12% affordable workspace.

It will see residential uses introduced to a strategic preferred industrial location.

However, councillors agreed departure from the adopted development plan was acceptable in light of the boost to affordable housing, employment and retail floorspace and creation of jobs.
