A 190,000 sq ft Debenhams in Southsea has received planning consent for 132 flats, becoming the latest store to convert to residential.
Hampshire-based National Regional Property Group will convert the space and add two storeys for further residential development.
The scheme will include 24,750 sq ft of ground floor commercial space and a mix of one, two and three-bedroom flat.
The Southsea Debenhams is located on a 1.5-acre site on Handley’s Corner, Palmerston Road. The developer lodged plans last June and the store closed this month.
It is the latest Debenhams destined for residential, following plans from Hammerson, Native Land and St James Securities, among others.
This week, online fashion retailer Boohoo rescued the Debenhams’ brand and website in a £55m deal which will see all 118 stores close.
AEW has since revealed it had acquired a 120,000 sq ft Chelmsford Debenhams for redevelopment, with a potential for leisure, offices or residential.
JLL advised on planning.
