Socius kicks off consultation on £1bn London Cancer Hub masterplan

Social mixed-use developer Socius has launched a consultation into plans for a £1.2bn cancer research and treatment hub in Sutton, south London.

The developer, which teamed up with investment partner Aviva on the site last year, has appointed Cushman & Wakefield and DTRE to support the planning process and oversee leasing at the location.

The parties will work alongside the London Borough of Sutton, the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust and the Institute of Cancer Research on a multi-phase development at the 12-acre site.

Early stage plans comprise 1.1m sq ft of facilities, to be brought forward over the next decade.

Over the course of this week, the developers will work with stakeholders and the local community to gather views on the project, with the aim to table initial designs for the scheme in June this year.

The outline planning application is expected to be lodged to the council by the end of 2024.

The scheme is set to be brought forward in three phases, kicking off with about 300,000 sq ft to 400,000 sq ft development under the phase 1.

About 70% of the new-build facilities are expected to be dedicated to life sciences uses. The remainder will provide leisure, retail and accommodation space – the latter of which could be student rooms, hotel beds, housing or temporary facilities for patients.
