Clients and agents have raised money for West Midlands children’s hospice Acorns.

Fearless staff at Birmingham Airport abseiled 32 metres at Acorns’ head office at Diamond House, raising £12,000.

Meanwhile, a spritely group of CBRE runners took part in the Great Birmingham Run. Crossing the finishing line and collectively raising more than £600 were Jan Losch, Will Sherlock, Owen Williams, Susannah Byles-Walters, John Roberts, and Craig Herrick, joined by Sofi Liperis of Persimmon Homes.

The charity provides care and support for children with life-limiting conditions and their families.

Ema Saunders, Savills’ human resources director, has been awarded Freedom of the City of London.

Saunders was awarded the accolade by the London Livery for her work with the education committee of the Worshipful Company of Chartered Surveyors on initiatives to encourage school children to consider a future in property.

ULI’s class act

The success of Urban Land Institute’s school outreach programme has led to the scheme being expanded to more schools and students across the UK next year.

The scheme aims to increase diversity in the property and financial services industries by engaging pupils from backgrounds underrepresented in the real estate sector. Participants take part in case studies, workshops and team activities focused around the regeneration of tainted urban sites.

Backing the UK initiative, which has been running in the US for more than ten years, are British Land, Land Securities, Grosvenor, the Westminster Foundation, Hammerson and Strutt & Parker.

KF&H raises £2,700

Kinleigh Folkard & Hayward raised more than £2,700 for Breast Cancer Haven.

Staff at the firm’s offices wore pink, held raffles and secured the support of local businesses for October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The charity provides care and support to anyone affected by breast cancer.

Calling all climbers

Be part of the UK’s highest stair climb in aid of children’s charity Rainbow Trust.

The Grate48 challenge will take place at the Leadenhall Building, EC3, on 10 November. Participants will race up more than 1,200 steps across 48 floors, finishing 200 metres above street level.

Patron Capital has been shortlisted for the Best Business-Charity Partnership at the National Fundraising Awards 2016 for the firm’s continued partnership with the Royal Marines Charity.

As part of its support to the charity, Patron Capital provides ex-servicemen and women suffering from physical and psychological injuries with mentoring and work placement opportunities to help them rebuild their lives.

Most recently, Patron Capital sponsored the Royal Marines Charity London dinner at the Guildhall, at which triple amputee Mark Ormrod delivered an inspirational speech to 450 attendees.

The event raised more than £300,000.

Graham Bygraves, construction manager at Greenwich Millennium Village, and construction industry mascot Ivor Goodsite visited children at Millennium Primary School in Greenwich to promote site safety as part of UK Construction Week.

Ivor talked to the children about the dangers posed by building sites and the importance of wearing protective clothing and understanding site safety signs and equipment.

Bygraves said: “UK Construction Week is an opportunity to engage with the children in GMV’s community and ensure they are aware of the importance of site safety.

“It’s inspiring to see the children so interested and keen to find out more about the different jobs involved.”

More than 200 development professionals gathered recently for the Sheffield Charity Construction Ball.

The annual black-tie event welcomed contractors, developers, architects and engineers from the region to Sheffield City Hall for an evening of fine dining, music and a live auction.

The event raised £12,000 for the Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, which provides care for children and young adults with life-shortening conditions and complex medical needs.

midlands-570pxRough sleep challenge for Midlands trio

Three members of Midlands Asset Finance’s staff braved the elements and slept rough at Notts County FC’s home ground, Meadow Lane, in Nottingham to support efforts to relieve homelessness.

The challenge was part of the national CEO Sleepout campaign, which hopes to get thousands of business leaders from across the UK to sleep outside for one night during 2016 to raise money for local homelessness charities.

The trio – Antony Kirk, Hayley Chapman and Ricky McNeil – raised more than £1,300 for Nottingham-based homeless charities Emmanuel House and The Friary.

Cushman & Wakefield’s London staff donned their red trousers in support of the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity’s inaugural “Red Trouser Day”.

The event was organised by C&W’s Kevin Longhurst, who is part of the event charity team.

Other red-legged property firms involved included Colliers International, Savills, Gerald Eve, JLL, CBRE, Glenny, Avison Young and Junction 10 Consulting.

The industry raised more than £1,000 towards the cancer charity’s goal of £20,000.
