Waterside welcome for entrepreneurs
The waterside offices of Pollard Thomas Edwards hosted more than 250 property youngsters at the annual summer party of networking group Young Entrepreneurs in Property.
The location of the host’s converted Victorian warehouse in Diespeker Wharf, Islington, N1, chimed with the theme of the event, waterside regeneration. Guest speakers included Dan Massie, development manager at Berkeley Homes, and Carl Vann, partner at Pollard Thomas Edwards, who spoke about the attraction, complexity and uniqueness of these developments in London.
Guests then spent the evening enjoying the summer party, including food from the London Barbecue, beach sounds from DJ Elliot Patterson and pedalos on the canal. It was the perfect environment for guests to network with like-minded industry professionals, aided by refreshments provided by Square Metre.

Path of glory
A property Thames Path relay challenge raised more than £18,000 for charities Prostate Cancer UK and LandAid. Organised by Julian Carey of C2 Capital, two teams ran the 184 mile route. Runners from Allsop, Helical Bar, BNP Paribas Real Estate and Hammerson took part. Team Go With The Flow, completed the challenge first, with team Easier Said Than Done just missing out.
Mountain-sized challenge for Ian
Ian Cansfield, director of planning at Cundall, has completed his expedition to Everest Base Camp and the summit of Kala Patthar, Nepal.
He confronted various terrains at an average altitude of 4,000m during the 12-day trek for St Oswald’s Hospice.
He raised £6,100 for the hospice, which offers support to children and young adults with life-limiting conditions, and their families.

Great Day for CBRE charity event
UK property leaders came together for One Great Day to raise money for Great Ormond Street and other children’s charities. The nationwide event, sponsored by CBRE, began with a charity race, with some of property’s ‘elite’ taking part in a 5k accumulated run from the CBRE headquarters, Henrietta House, W1, to Great Ormond Street.
Teams from BMO Real Estate Partners, Ellandi, NewRiver and Capital and Regional took part and raised £7,000.
More than 60 retail spaces around the country took part in the event which raised more than £50,000. A flagship event at St Christopher’s Place, W1, held a stationary bike race hosted by Sky Sports presenter Olivia Wayne, with 40 teams taking part, and BMO the winners. Other activities included a swing band, a coffee morning and an R&R area. The day saw a 30% increase in footfall from the previous year.
Shaylor’s 18-month effort raises £35,000
Staff at the Shaylor Group have raised £35,000 over the past 18 months for Teenage Cancer Trust.
The trust is dedicated to improving the quality of life and chances of survival for young people with cancer aged 13 to 24.
The charity was chosen by Shaylor following the assistance an employee received while his son fought a rare form of bone cancer.
Fundraising initiatives have included the Wolf Run, the Fred Shaylor Golf Classic and a record-breaking skydiving event in memory of Stephen Sutton.

Shaky start does not deter Sanderson team
A team of 16 Sanderson Weatherall property experts and staff took to the road for its annual charity bike ride from London to Paris, raising £3,000 for the British Heart Foundation.
The trip didn’t start too smoothly. Strong headwinds, occasional showers, mechanical malfunctions and a record number of punctures all featured.
A wardrobe disaster was only averted after some of the cyclists’ luggage was couriered ahead, when it became apparent the support vehicle had left it behind.
Simon Heather, partner in the Manchester office, and organiser of this year’s trip said: “After a particularly tough first day, we are absolutely delighted to have completed the trip as a team, all in one piece… and with all our luggage.
“The funds we have raised will be gratefully received by this year’s chosen charity – the British Heart Foundation. This year the total raised by the Sanderson Weatherall cycle challenge stands at well over £30,000.”

Watt’s off to Rio
Rio is calling for Matthew & Goodman surveyor Michael Watt, who is representing Ireland at the 2016 Olympic Games as part of the Irish hockey team. It is the first time an Irish team has competed at an Olympics since 1908.
Rainbow funding
Estate agent Cubitt & West has donated £30,000 to the Rainbow Trust children’s charity Surrey care team to fund family support worker Nicki Phelan.
The charity supports families of children with life-threatening or terminal illnesses. Cubitt & West will fund the role for a year, through its community foundation fund.
The firm has supported the charity for more than 10 years and hopes to raise an additional £11,000 through staff fund raising. One such event is The Nuts Challenge. Employees from its 15 branches will take part in a 7km army assault course on 4 September.

On the move for MIND
RealService managing director Howard Morgan will cycle 1,000 miles from Land’s End to John O’Groats in 12 days, beginning 20 August.
He is taking on the challenge in memory of former BAA Lynton colleague John O’Halloran and fundraising for mental health charity MIND.
The challenge follows the John O’Halloran Symposium, a new mental health forum which brought together more than 90 leaders from across the property industry. For more information go to www.johnohalloransymposium.org
