BL gets the little ones reading
British Land has partnered with the National Literacy Trust for the fifth year to support its young readers programme.
As part of the programme, primary school children across the UK have been helped to develop their reading skills through activities hosted at 22 British Land shopping centres, including Meadowhall in Sheffield, St Stephen’s in Hull and Glasgow Fort.
The initiative has already encouraged more than 19,000 children under 11 to enjoy reading.
National Literacy Trust director Jonathan Douglas said: “We are grateful for British Land’s continued support in helping us to reach more children across the UK and equipping them with the vital skills they need to succeed.”
On course for a Rainbow
Cubitt & West employees have raised £11,638 for children’s charity the Rainbow Trust, which supports families caring for a child with a life-threatening or terminal illness.
A gutsy group from across Cubitt & West’s 15 branches took part in the Nuts Challenge, a 7km army assault course made up of 100 obstacles including muddy cargo nets, bunkers, tunnels and slides.
The fundraising efforts are part of a long-term commitment by the company to the Surrey-based charity. The agent has already donated £30,000 to help fund one of the trust’s family support workers.
Wired for thrills
Adrenaline-seeking office workers were given the opportunity of taking part in a vertigo-inducing zipwire ride from one of the tallest buildings at Chiswick business park during their lunch break last Friday. The event was a part of Chiswick Park Enjoy-Work’s summer event programme aimed at promoting wellbeing and boosting productivity.
Dinner with an Olympic champ
The property industry will come together on 5 October to celebrate the highlights and successes of its commitment to cycling at the Club Peloton gala dinner, held at the Lee Valley Velodrome, E20.
The event will be hosted by British sports journalist Ned Boulting, who will announce the winners of the Club Peloton awards. The evening’s special guest will be team pursuit Olympic gold medallist Owain Doull, who will talk about his experiences at Rio this year.
The more enthusiastic and competitive cyclists in the industry will have the opportunity to compete in team pursuit racing on the night.

Winning student to be named
The winner of the 2016 National Student Awards will be announced at the Best of the Best Dinner on 21 September at Claridge’s, W1.
The awards, in association with Women in Property, involved 86 students from a range of environmental disciplines, studying at 47 universities across the UK.
The 10 finalists will go head to head in the national final, with the 2016 winner receiving £700 and a year’s membership of Women in Property.
This year’s awards have been sponsored by Cushman & Wakefield, Bouygues UK and Linden Homes.
WiP national chairman Lisa-Jane Risk said: “We launched the awards 10 years ago to celebrate the wealth of talent in our universities and to encourage more young women to follow a career in property and construction.
Roy hits the road to France
Roy Greening, general manager at the Mall Luton, took to the road for his first charity bike ride on 16 September. As part of The Mall Cares programme, he is raising money for the East Anglian air ambulance and the Royal British Legion.
To commemorate a century since the Battle of the Somme, the 240-mile ride started from Luton war memorial and arrives at Thiepval Memorial in France on 18 September.
