Six shortlisted for Skipton mixed-use redevelopment

Craven District Council has shortlisted six potential development partners for a £50m mixed-use redevelopment programme in Skipton, North Yorkshire.

Barratt Urban Regeneration and Rushbond, Strata Homes and Amco, Gleeson Group, Lovall and Maple Grove, Bellway and GMI, and Accent Group have been asked to draw up masterplans as part of an interim stage introduced to reduce the shortlist to three by July 2007.

The proposed regeneration will see a long-term development partner deliver residential, commercial and civic buildings on five sites in the town, including a 35,000 sq ft civic centre.

There will be a public consultation for the final three shortlisted developers later in the year where they will be expected to share their plans for each site.

Craven District Council Leader Carl Lis said: “We were very pleased with the high level of response to becoming the council’s strategic development partner for Skipton developments.

“Taking the maximum number of potential strategic partners through to the next stage means that we are taking every possible step to get the right partner for the project, a partner who can demonstrate innovative ideas and architectural design of the highest quality whilst being sympathetic to our unique town and landscape.”

GVA Grimley advises the council.
