Sittingbourne town centre partner selected

The Spirit of Sittingbourne consortium – a tie up between Cathedral Group, Essential Land and Altyon – has been selected as development partner for the £110m Sittingbourne town centre redevelopment.

The consortium beat Spenhill and St James’s Investments to secure the project.

Swale council said the had been selected because it focuses on the redevelopment of the town centre as a whole, and was judged by the council to be the most likely to achieve long term regeneration and invigorate the town centre.

It proposes a series of mixed-use development opportunities including a new Cultural Quarter with a multiplex cinema and performance venue, a library, café and community meeting rooms, and a health centre.

The council said the project would generate £250m of economic improvement over the next 10 years and will create 1100 jobs.
