A shortlist of sites to become an enterprise zone in the Sheffield City Region was revealed today.
The seven locations, within the boundaries of the local enterprise partnership, range in size from 10 acres to 272 acres.
The government announced in the Budget that it would allow local enterprise partnerships to identify 21 areas in England to become enterprise zones.
They will enjoy a range of benefits, including business rate discounts, a simpler planning region and access to superfast broadband.
The Sheffield City Region shortlist is:
• Bassetlaw – A 272-acre site at junction 34 of the A1M.
• Courthouse Campus, Barnsley – A 10.5-acre site close to Barnsley town centre.
• Chesterfield Waterside – A 62-acre brownfield site on the edge of Chesterfield town centre.
• Dearne M1 corridor – a series of sites totalling more than 250 acres.
• Markham Vale – a 198-acre employment site in the M1 corridor.
• The modern manufacturing priority area on the borders of Sheffield and Rotherham.
• Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield Business Park – a 225-acre site.
