Scottish Power has unveiled a vision of its new £80m headquarters in Glasgow’s city centre.

Last week, the energy company chose a joint venture between Helical Bar and Dawn Developments as its development partner to build the 14-storey office block on the former Elphinstone Tower site.

It will be Scotland’s largest single-occupier office development for 25 years.

The 220,000 sq ft building will house 1,500 staff, who will relocate from existing offices in Cathcart, Yoker and Falkirk.

As part of the agreement, buildings in the firm’s existing locations will be taken on by Helical Bar, which will seek redevelopment opportunities for these sites.

Scottish Power has acquired an option to buy the land at Elphinstone and will take a long-term lease of around 25-years once the development is completed.

Ross Henderson, head of estates at Scottish Power, said: “Helical and Dawn’s design for our new HQ building provided us with the best fit in terms of spec and efficiencies. This was a synchronised approach with the new HQ and the other sites to be redeveloped, we felt they had the best options going forward.”

Chairman Ignacio Galan added: “This new development will ensure Glasgow remains home to Scottish Power’s UK headquarters for the long-term and will be a hub for delivering the £10bn of planned investment over the coming years.”

Work will start on the St Vincent Street and India Street site in 2013 with completion by late 2015.
