Scotland vote: One month to go

AUDIO: It’s exactly a month today until Scotland decides on whether to remain part of the United Kingdom, or go it alone.

To mark the occasion, EG talks exclusively to Scottish Property Federation director David Melhuish about the independence referendum, the current impact on the Scottish property market and the possible outcome post vote on September 18th.

Melhuish says the industry is currently “in a better voice than it has been,” but adds: “Of course there are a lot of things on the horizon and we don’t know how that’s going to pan out in a month’s time.”

According to the SPF’s latest property sales quarterly report for Q2 2014, there has been a sharp drop in all commercial property sales of £5m and over.

Melhuish confirms that Glasgow has seen the biggest fall off with a £150m drop, while Edinburgh experienced a fall of £80m. However, Aberdeen bucked the trend and saw a £30m increase in property sales during the period – from April to June this year.
