Savills: collaborating to build a stronger network

Following the success of EG’s Future Female Leaders project in 2019, we have pledged to continue our programme of training the industry’s future leaders with at least two further cohorts in 2020.

Back in partnership with Ginger Public Speaking, a range of women from across the built environment will again be undergoing Ginger’s intense training schedule, learning the skills and building the confidence to be not just a future leader, but a leader today.

Culminating, just like in 2019, with a high-octane and overwhelmingly inspiring event in the summer, this year’s Future Female Leaders project kicks off officially on 20 February. But before we meet this year’s cohorts, let’s hear from some of our key partners on FFL: the second coming.

Why Savills is supporting Future Female Leaders

To achieve a balanced workforce, alongside Savills’ in-house programme of initiatives, we also recognise the need to support some highly focused strategies, collaborating with other businesses in our industry to build a stronger network for women to work together.   

We are supporting the Future Female Leaders programme because we recognise that there are fewer female role models and women may have lacked the confidence to speak, whether it be in a meeting or at an event.

In a service profession like ours, people are our primary asset, and so we need to give them the confidence to present to clients and wider audiences but also to negotiate successfully. In meetings, women have often been in the minority, and while the change in our industry takes place, we need to ensure that those women have the toolkit to equip them to be heard and respected. 

At the same time, we recognise that some of our male colleagues would also benefit from this training, and so we will of course also review opportunities for them. This is a commitment to everyone to achieve a better gender balance and, ultimately, a working environment in which everyone is valued, happy and able to thrive.

Savills is delighted to nominate Laura MacKay for the EG Future Female Leaders programme. Laura, who is part of our Northern development team based in Manchester, specialises in providing market-facing development consultancy advice.Laura has already achieved great things at Savills, and represents the talented young women in our business for whom we want to create a platform where they feel confident and can progress in our industry.

Laura, like many of EG’s highly talented candidates, is an ambassador for real estate. Through her work in development across a wide range of clients, she has contributed to creating communities, which in itself is a powerful story to tell about the positive impact of our industry.

Together, our future leaders will support each and move upwards to board-level positions. In sharing their own experiences we hope that they may also encourage a more diverse range of young people to pursue careers in real estate who may not have appreciated the breadth and depth of the industry.
